Lake Bled

Lake BledIf you are contemplating making some Slovenia day trips during your visit, lake Bled with its island is definitely a must see. There are plenty of activities you can do: visit the island on a special boat called pletna, visit the medieval Bled castle where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the entire lake, see the museum and the wine cellar.

You can also take a two kilometres walk around the lake and reward yourself with a slice of kremšnita – a local delicacy.

 

 

Vintgar Gorge

Vintgar GorgeIf you enjoy hikes and some breath-taking scenery, the river-carved Vintgar Gorge is a must see while in Bled! Here you can do a medium hike along the Radovna River. The path will lead you through rocky paths and over wooden bridges all the way to a 13 metres high Šum waterfall.

 

 

Bohinj

BohinjSometimes you just want to visit a beautiful place, feel the peacefulness of nature and not be surrounded by too many tourists. Lake Bohinj is bigger than Bled and much less crowded. There aren’t as many tourist activities, but you can really enjoy nature in all its beauty. The entire circuit of the lake is 12 kilometres long, so be prepared for a little more walking. You can also take a boat excursion on the lake at Ribčev Laz.

 

Postojna Cave and Predjama Castle

Postojna CaveSome attractions are full of tourists but still worthy the visit and Postojna Cave is definitely one of them. A train will take you to a spectacular underground world beyond anything you can imagine. There are guided tours full of interesting information.

Not far from Postojna, you can visit the Predjama Castle. It is not just another old castle, what makes it stand out is that it is a castle carved into a side of a cliff. It was even a home of the Slovene “Robin Hood”. If you want to find out more, don’t hesitate to visit it.

Maribor is the second largest city in Slovenia and also has a very rich history. You can visit the Town Hall, the castle and the cathedral and the old town called Lent, where you can find the oldest vine in the world.
